YOUR Community STILL Needs YOUR Help
We still need volunteers to shop, collect prescriptions and act as telephone befrienders
As people return to work and undertaking school runs some of our volunteers have had to relinquish their roles, therefore if you would still like to volunteer the details below still apply.
On the 15th March we asked for people who were DBS checked to come forward to act as a Volunteer Co-ordinator to help us put the infrastructure of this community response to Covid-19 in to place.
We were overwhelmed with the response, attitude and organisational skills of 150+ people who came forward. They have been working hard to leaflet areas around town, providing their contact details so that the vulnerable people at home, who have no support system in place (so no family or friends who can nip out and do the shopping for instance) know that there are people out there willing to help them.
What we now need are people who would like to volunteer to undertake some of the tasks that arise from people phoning asking for some help.
As a volunteer you will become part of a Facebook group for your area of town. There are 11 areas in total, 9 as shown on the map plus Hele and Lee & Lincombe.
If you are not on Facebook or you do not wish to use Facebook you can still get involved by e-mailing email@example.com and giving us your name, area you live in, contact e-mail and either a mobile or a landline number. Also if you are self isolating but other wise fit and well please let us know.
These Facebook groups contain the co-ordinators who have been setting everything up for your street.
As they receive calls from people in our community they will put a call out for volunteers in the group to see who is available.
When you join the group please do a quick post introducing yourself by saying what you are happy to do and what road you live on.
We would only expect you to be undertake tasks if you are a) willing and b)well.
If you are self-isolating but still want to be of help, please go to the group and introduce yourself as above, but say that you can only be a phone befriender.
Within the group you will also find the Volunteer Protocols.
PLEASE ensure you read this as soon as you can. You can find these if you read through the Annoucements on the page, or look in the Files tab or by clicking on this link
We are aware that some areas haven’t had their leaflets yet – please bear with us.
Here are the groups, you can either click on the URL or copy and paste into your web browser.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE GROUPS ARE PURELY FOR VOLUNTEERS AND AREN’T FOR PEOPLE NEEDING HELP. IF YOU NEED HELP EITHER CALL THE NUMBER ON THE LEAFLET YOU RECEIVED, OR IF YOU HAVEN’T RECEIVED ONE YET MESSAGE THE ILFRACOMBE TOWN COUNCIL FACEBOOK PAGE
