Message from Steve Rogers, Headteacher, The Ilfracombe Academy

Dear Parent/Carer, having reflected further on the guidance and to support students and their parents/carers further we are updating our provision for first 2 weeks of term. Please see the updated sections in bold type.

At this stage I can confirm the following:

  • Monday the 4th of January will still be a non-pupil/logistics/training day for staff for all the reasons I highlighted in my previous letter

  • Year 11 and 13 will receive remote learning between Tuesday 5th and Friday 8th January

  • Students that have external vocational assessments in the first week will still be called in to complete them

  • Students in Year 10 and 12 that have imminent vocational external assessments will receive remote learning between Tuesday 5th and Friday 8th January and normal face to face lessons from Monday 11th January.

  • Year 7 to 10 (non-examination classes) will receive remote learning between Tuesday 5th January to Friday 8th January and again between Monday 11th January through to Friday 15th January.

  • All Vulnerable and Critical Worker children will receive in school education from Tuesday 5th of January.

  • All year groups will receive normal face to face lessons from Monday 18th January

  • Testing will commence from the 11th January – starting with the examination groups. We have had a great response from the community from people that have volunteered to help with the administration of Lateral Flow Tests. However, we could still do with some more, so please put yourself forward if you feel you can offer you support

  • Thank you to all those parents that have already completed the testing consent form.

  • Please can all other parents complete this form, even if you do not want your child to be tested, in order to help the planning and administration process.

We apologise for these adjustments but we hope you’ll understand that it is very challenging to negotiate the constantly changing guidance. We will continue to keep you updated as and when needed.

Happy New Year

Regards Steve Rogers (Headteacher)
